On Friday, May 29th, at 03:22 P.M., the Monmouth Fire Department responded to reports of heavy smoke coming from the inside of an apartment complex located at 323 East 4th Avenue in Monmouth. Upon arrival, firefighters found the structure to be producing a large volume of smoke and started a search for occupants and attempted to identify the affected areas.

A request for mutual aid was made, and additional departments responded to the scene. The fire was contained to the immediate structure and did not spread to any surrounding buildings. A series of defensive and offensive tactics were performed, and the scene was secure in approximately 3 hours. No injuries were sustained as a result of the fire.

The cause of the fire is currently under investigation by the Illinois State Fire Marshal.

Other agencies who responded to help with the incident were the Cameron and Kirkwood Fire Departments, Roseville Fire, Alexis Fire, Little York Fire, the Monmouth Police Department, and Galesburg Hospital Ambulance Service.

The Monmouth Fire Department would also like to express their thanks to Mike Whitson from 1-800-Boardup of the Quad Cities for the water, sports drinks, and food that was provided to firefighters on the scene. The department also wishes to thank the local restaurant Granny’s Dinner Bell for the pork chops, hot dogs, and lemonade they provided free of charge to the firefighters for their dinner.

No further information is available at this time.
