Danuta M. McIntire, age 83, of Stronghurst, Illinois, passed away Monday July 27, 2020 at Roseville Rehabilitation & Care Center in Roseville, Illinois.  She was born July 12, 1937 in Dyle, Poland, the daughter of Roman and Helena Gumieniak Lipiec.  On June 23, 1956, she married George “Jack” McIntire in Raritan, Illinois.

Danuta was raised in Poland until 1943, when her family was arrested by Nazi soldiers and transported to Germany, where they were forced into slave labor.  They were in concentration camps until the war ended. Following the war, relief services, through the Catholic Church, sponsored families who were from war torn countries.  Her family was sponsored by Walter and Kathryn Baugh, and relocated to Bennington, Kansas.  They lived there until the  dust storms forced them to move. In 1951, she moved Raritan, and later to Stronghurst in the mid 1950’s.

Danuta had worked as a waitress, and at the Lomax Canning Factory.  Later she became a beautician, and was employed at Luella’s Beauty Shop in Lomax for many years, until her retirement.  She also volunteered at Oak Lane Nursing & Rehab in Stronghurst for several years.  She was a member of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Raritan.

Survivors include her husband, one daughter, Aimee Wolfe of West Burlington, IA, two sons, Wayne McIntire of Joliet, IL, Paul McIntire of Stronghurst,IL, four grandchildren, Cody, Mariah, and Elijah Wolfe, and Matthew McIntire,  three great grandchildren, Jack McIntire and Tinley and Aubrey Wolfe, and one brother, Mieczyslaw Lipiec of Austin, TX.  She was preceded in death by her parents.

Graveside services will be held at 10:00 a.m.Friday July 31, 2020 at St. Patrick’s Catholic Cemetery near Raritan.  No visitation is planned.  A memorial fund has been established for St. Patrick’s Catholic Church near Raritan.  Memorials may be sent in care of Banks & Beals Funeral Home, P.O.
