Herbert E. “Herb” Stinemates, 83, of Monmouth, IL, passed away at 2:50 a.m., Friday, July 17, 2020 at OSF St. Francis Medical Center, Peoria, IL.
He was born on October 2, 1936 in Monmouth, IL, the son of Jean R. and Alma (Holton) Stinemates. Herb was raised and educated in Kirkwood, IL and graduated from Kirkwood High School in 1954. He proudly served his country in the United States Army.
Herb married Dixie Gaddis McAllister. He later married Rosemary Cecil on March 17, 1984 in Kirkwood, IL; she survives.
Herb farmed most of his life, helping on the family farm. He sold ag supplies and chemicals at FS. He also worked at the USDA-FSA Office until his retirement. Herb was a friend to many and could brighten anyone’s day, he never knew a stranger. Herb was a member of the Swan Creek United Methodist Church, American Legion Post 136 in Monmouth, Warren/Henderson Farm Bureau, and the Gold Wing Road Riders Association.
Surviving Herb is his wife, Rosemary Stinemates of Monmouth, IL; his children, Herb “Gene” Stinemates, Jr., James (Vicki) Stinemates of Burlington, IA, Jerry Lynn Shughart of Avoca, IA, Cindy Johnson of Naples, FL, Randy Shughart of Avoca, IA and Wyatt Jake Shughart of Monmouth, IL. Also surviving are 14 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one grandson, Michael Wayne Shughart.
Graveside services with Military Honors will be at 2:30 p.m., Thursday, July 23, 2020 at Center Grove Cemetery, Kirkwood, IL. Cremation rites have been accorded. Memorials can be made to the Swan Creek United Methodist Church. McGuire & Davies Funeral Home and Crematory, Monmouth, IL, is in charge of the arrangements.
