Ned G. Anderson, 82, of Galesburg, died peacefully at 10:28 p.m. July 24, 2020 at Seminary Manor, Galesburg.

Ned was born June 3, 1938 in Galesburg, the son of Leslie V. and Nina S. (Hill) Anderson.  He married Deborah Jones on June 3, 1961 in Avon.  She survives.  Ned is also survived by one daughter, Angi (John) Lucas of Abingdon; three grandchildren, Bailey, Jack, and Madison Lucas; one sister, Nina Rodriguez of Denver, CO; and several nieces and nephews.  Ned was preceded in death by his parents; his son, Angi’s twin brother, Leslie Paul Anderson; and two brothers.

Ned graduated GHS in 1956.  He enlisted in the US Marine Corps on January 7, 1957 and was honorably discharged on January 6, 1960.  While serving in the Marine Corps he was aboard the USS Anderson.  After he was discharged, Ned joined his father in Anderson’s “Tom’s” Distributing.  After his father died in 1969, Ned purchased the business from his mother and operated it until he retired in 2016.  Ned was a social butterfly and enjoyed talking to everyone he saw along his routes.

Ned was an active member of Vesper Lodge A.F.& A.M. 584 where he served as Worshipful Master in 2004.  Ned was also a member of the Moline Valley Consistory.  Ned was a faithful and active member of the First Baptist Church spending many years teaching Sunday school and chaperoning youth trips, visiting the Holy Land two times.  Ned loved all animals especially his German Shepherd and was active with the Knox County Humane Society since its inception in 1994 serving many years on the board and was president from 2007-2010.  Ned loved riding motorcycles and traveling with his wife Debbie.  Ned and Debbie enjoyed spending time with their friends, family, grandchildren’s sporting events and school activities.

Cremation will be accorded.  Graveside service with Masonic Services will be 12 p.m. Saturday, August 8, 2020 at East Linwood Cemetery.  A celebration of life follow from 1:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. at the Thomas Legacy Center at Watson Thomas Funeral Home and Crematory, Galesburg.  Arrangements have been entrusted to Watson Thomas Funeral Home and Crematory, Galesburg.  Memorials may be made in Ned’s memory to the Knox County Humane Society.  Online expressions of sympathy may be sent to the family at www.watsonthomas.com
