Gertrude “Trudy” Johnson McCord is at peace. She left this earth August 7, 2020.

Trudy was born May 29, 1920, in Soperville, Illinois; the eighth child of Charles J. Johnson and Victoria Nelson Johnson.

She is survived by her brother, Robert Johnson, Fort Worth, Texas; her daughters: Theresa McCord, Bainbridge Island, Washington, Lorraine Dundon, Galesburg, and Mitzi Broermann, Jefferson City, Missouri; six grandchildren, and six great-grandchildren.

Trudy graduated from Galesburg High School in 1938. During World War II, she worked in San Diego as a riveter on Consolidated B-24 bombers. It was there she married Clark B McCord. Later she was a farm wife in Northwest Missouri, and a postal clerk in Ravenwood, Missouri.

Over the years her interests were many and varied. She enjoyed playing cards, reading and reciting poetry, travel, bowling, dancing, Bible study, church activities, singing, and anything Swedish. Until she was 90, she stood on her head almost every day.

Family and friends are invited to a visitation, including munchies, 9 to 10 a.m. Tuesday, August 11, 2020, at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Funeral Directors and Cremation Services Galesburg Chapel, 1070 W. Fremont St. Services will follow at 10 a.m. Those wishing to attend the funeral “virtually” may watch the live broadcast on the funeral home’s Facebook page at https://www.facebook.com/Hinchliff-Pearson-West-Funeral-Directors-and-Cremation-Services-160333664037824. Henderson Grove Cemetery is the site of interment.
