Golf

The Macomb Bomber boys golf team has big expectations heading into this season. They have five golfers back from a Class 2A state-qualifying team last year. That quintet teed it up for the first time last night at Kellogg Golf Course in Peoria for the Peoria Notre Dame Invitational. No surprise, the Bombers took first place, shooting a school-record 295 as a team. Macomb’s Braeden Duncan was the tournament medalist with a 1-under 71. Connor Hamm and Jack Lockard shot 74’s and Griffin Taylor carded a 76 to round out the scoring for the Bombers.

The Macomb Lady Bomber golf team was also victorious at Baker Park over Kewanee and Bureau Valley. Macomb shot a team score of 175 for nine holes. That was 22 shots better that Kewanee (197) and 63 shots better than BV (238). Laine Torrance was the meet medalist with a 40 for the Lady Bombers. Trinity Christensen contributed a 43 for Macomb as well. Lily Vardaman and Katie Tell shot matching 46’s for the 175 team total.

Sherrard went (2-0) in a triangular meet at Valley View Golf Club. The Tigers shot a team score of 160. Ridgewood was 2nd with a 168 and Mid County carded a team total of 189. Sherrard’s Brennan Welch was the meet medalist with a 34. Ganon Greenman had a 36 to lead Ridgewood and Kaden Willer led Mid County with a 43.

In a boys dual meet at Oakwood Country Club in Coal Valley, Orion beat Annawan/Wethersfield 208-222. Orion’s Vaughn Bernahardt was the lowest golfer of the meet with a 47.

Junior High

In junior high baseball, West Central lost to Ridgewood 15-8 in Stronghurst. Ethan Nichols had a pair of hits for West Central.
