George P. Torrance of Biggsville, Illinois, passed away on September 26,
2020 at Great River Medical Center in West Burlington, Iowa. George was
born September 22, 1932 in Sciota, Illinois and is the son of Ervin and
Josie Guy Torrance. George was raised in Sciota where he attended local
schools and graduated from Media High School. George, a farmer and
nursery man, was an FFA American Farmer, sang in the state FFA chorus,
and served on the board of the Union School District, Henderson County
Board, and the Henderson County Drainage District. He served in the Army
during the American occupation of Europe and greatly enjoyed traveling
all over with his Leica camera. George married Reta Kay Nott on July 31,
1955 in Lewistown, Illinois and she preceded him in death on June 3,
2007.

His love of sports meant he could be found at all of his children’s events, even if it meant going to two places in one night, or traveling to events seven days a week.

He is survived by his children: Rebecca Anderson (A. David) of Reynolds, IL; Phillip of Gladstone, IL; Susan Haney (Michael) of Champaign, IL; Dean (Theresa) of Granville, IL; Stanley (Heidi) of Biggsville, IL and his daughter in law, Nannette, as well as numerous grandchildren and their families. He was preceded in death by his wife, Reta Nott Torrance, his son, Joe, his sisters, Alice Paulsgrove, Grace Bond (Jesse), Jennie Anderson McKee, and his brother, Frank (Helen) Torrance.

Visitation will be held Wednesday, September 30th at Turnbull Funeral
Home in Oquawka from 9:30 to 11:30 am with a graveside service following
immediately after at the Oquawka Cemetery. The family asks that in honor
of George you drive your truck, bring your lawn chair, and wear jeans
and a flannel shirt. He always wanted to be comfortable. Memorials may
be given to the gym fund of the Henderson County Health Department. To
