Joyce E. Groom, 84, of Galesburg, passed away on Tuesday, September 15, 2020, 10:00 AM, at home with her son by her side.

Joyce was born on January 12, 1936 in Centerville, Iowa. She was the daughter of William Roy and Lily Mae (Herr) Brackett. She married Charles F. Groom in 1955. Together they celebrated 37 years of marriage, before he preceded her in death in 1992. Joyce is survived by her son, Richard Groom of Galesburg; sister, Charlotte May of Knoxville; brother, Donnie Brackett of Galesburg; grandson, Travis Patrick; two great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband; parents; six siblings; a sister-in-law; and a brother-in-law.

Joyce worked at Maytag, where she produced plastic parts. She retired in 1996, after 41 years of service. She then went on to work as a change person for the Isle of Capri Casino in Rock Island and was a driver for Black’s Transportation. Joyce was a hard worker and never missed a day of work. She was a member of Colonial Baptist Church in Galesburg. She loved spending time with her family. She will be greatly missed by those who loved her.

Cremation rites have been accorded. A private family burial of cremated remains will be held on a later date at East Linwood Cemetery. Arrangements have been entrusted with Hurd-Hendricks Funeral Homes and Crematory, Knoxville. Online condolences may be left to the family at www.hurd-hendricksfuneralhome.com.
