Beginning March 5th, Stone-Hayes Center for Independent Living will launch their Community Advocacy Training program, where individuals will learn the importance of self-advocacy as well as advocating for all individuals with disabilities, explains Community Reintegration Coordinator Sarah Nelson:

“We have our CAT Group coming up once again. CAT stands for Community Advocacy Training. It is a ten-week course, starting March 5th. The group meets every Wednesday from 3 to 4 pm at Stone-Hayes. They learn about how to advocate for themselves or for others at the local, state, and federal levels. They also participate in a class project and then they take a trip to Springfield and see a legislative session in action.”

In previous years, the Community Advocacy Training group made their voices heard on congested aisles in stores and repairing curbs around the Galesburg community.
