Knox College Prairie Fire Student-Athlete Spotlight: Corey McKnight

Share

Corey McKnight is a senior from Aurora, Illinois. He is a dual-sport athlete, playing center in football and throwing for the track and field team. Corey is an Integrative Business and Management major with a double minor in Spanish and Statistics. He is a member of the Beta Theta Pi fraternity and enjoys playing video games, going to Cherry Street for 60 cent wing night, and making himself and others laugh as much as possible.

What do you love most about your sport?

The one thing that I love most about my sport is my teammates. Those guys will be my brothers for life and there isn’t another group that I would want to play with every Saturday than those guys.

What activities, organizations, or leadership positions do you hold outside of athletics?

I am the Risk Manager of Beta Theta Pi, which I also was during my sophomore year. I served as the Social Chair during my junior year. I also participate in Blessings in a Backpack and was a part of Food Recovery Network during my sophomore year.

How has your experience with your sport changed over time?

I’ve taken on more of a leadership role during my time playing football. I feel like more guys come to me for advice and expect me to lead by example on and off the field.

Why did you choose Knox?

I chose Knox because of the family aspect and small school atmosphere. I feel that being at a smaller school has benefited me more in the classroom to build stronger relationships with my professors and has given me the chance to meet more people.

If you could travel/live anywhere in the world where would it be?

I definitely want to go to Japan and go to this Godzilla museum that they just opened up. I’m the biggest Godzilla fan on this planet so that’s at the top of my bucket list of things to do (hopefully very soon).

What do you enjoy most about Division 3?

I feel that Division 3 gives players the opportunity to not just be another “number” on the roster and instead, gives us the chance to build actual relationships with our coaches and athletic department.

What is your favorite movie?

Right now, Avengers Infinity War, but you could pick any Marvel movie and I’d want to watch it on the spot.

What is your favorite band/artist?

Either Drake or Lil Uzi Vert

What is one tip you would give an incoming FY?

Try new things and don’t be afraid to get out of your comfort zone. Explore joining a fraternity, club, etc. Always try to expand your horizons and don’t always do what you’re used to doing.
