Local High School and Junior High Sports Update for Sept. 1, 2020

Golf

The Macomb Bomber girls golf team lost a close dual match to Pekin at Lick Creek Golf Course yesterday. The Bombers shot a team score of 211, with Pekin shooting a 208. Lane Torrance shot an individual score of 50 to lead Macomb. She was joined in the scoring column by Lily Vardaman with a 53, and Ellen Meixner and Trinity Christensen rounded out the scoring with 54’s each.

The Galesburg High School girls golfers were also edged out by Sterling 215-219 at Lake Bracken Country Club in Galesburg. Becca Watson carded a 50 for Galesburg. Also scoring for the Silver Streaks was Maddy Allen with a 52, Abby Endthoff with a 57 and Kendra Coon and Gracey Miyler tied for the final scoring position for Galesburg with a pair of 60’s.

The Ridgewood Spartan boys golfers dominated their tri-meet with Mid County and Bureau Valley. The Spartans had three golfers shoot below 40. Tom Bumann, Ganon Greenman and Bill Bumann all tied for meet medalist honors with a 39. David Swanson garnered a 44 for Ridgewood, as well. The Spartan’s team score of 161 was 36 strokes better than Mid County and 48 better than Bureau Valley. Jackson Willer led Mid County with a 46.
The Galesburg Silver Streak girls swim team lost to Moline 118-66 at Galesburg High School. Getting an individual win for the Streaks was Ari Bailey in the 1 meter diving competition.

Cross Country

The Galesburg and Knoxville High School boys and girls cross country teams met up for a dual meet at Lake Storey Park in Galesburg. The Knoxville girls defeated the Silver Streaks 18-44. For Knoxville, Mackenzie Rader and Bryn Bahnks finshed 1st and 2nd, with Galesburg’s Briana Admire placing 3rd. Knoxville did not have enough boys to compete for the team win but did get a 2nd place from Dawson Hensley. Galesburg’s Ben Vazquez won the boy’s side, with teammate Alex Buchen getting 3rd.

Junior High

In junior high baseball, despite the afternoon rains, the ICS Trojan baseball team took on Ridgewood in Woodhull. The Trojans fell to (1-2) on the season with a heartbreaking 7-5 loss to the Spartans. ICS jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first inning on a Max Ferguson 2-run double. The Spartans answered with three runs in their half of the first to take their first lead of the game. The Trojans answered that answer with a pair of runs in the top of the 2nd. Clay Casteel gave ICS a 4-3 lead with an rbi single. The game would go back and forth until the Spartans took the lead for good with two runs in the bottom of the 5th. Casteel and Ferguson led ICS with two hits each. Both of Ferguson’s hits were doubles. Elijah Noel also doubled for the Trojans.
