The final high school sporting event for the fall sports season happens tomorrow as IHSA cross country sectional meets are being held around the state. There will be several local runners at three separate sectional sites. Individual runners, Rafael Tomas Francisco, a sophomore from Monmouth-Roseville, Bridget Brokaw, a senior from United, Nick Janson a senior from Ridgewood, Miranda Reed a freshman also from Ridgewood and Emma Seiboldt, a sophomore from Galva will all compete at the Class 1A sectional at the FFA Ag Land Lab course in seneca. Francisco was 12th and Janson placed 6th at the Alleman Regional at Saukie Golf Course last Saturday. Brokaw was 20th and Seiboldt was 21st at Saukie. Those individuals will be joined by local schools competing for a team title, such as the Ridgewood girls, the Sherrard boys and both squads from Mercer County. The Sherrard Tiger boys won the regional title plaque and are looking for a sectional championship, as well.
The Knoxville Blue Bullet girls cross country team claimed the Class 1A Liberty Regional title last Saturday at Liberty High School, qualifying themselves for tomorrow’s Elmwood Sectional at Maple Lane Country Club. The Blue Bullets were led by junior Mackenzie Rader’s 4th place and freshman Lauren King’s 5th place individual finishes. The Macomb Bomber boys and girls will run tomorrow in Elmwood. The Bomber girls finished runner-up to Knoxville at Liberty as a team and had senior Olivia Bishop as their top runner in 3rd. The Macomb boys were 3rd as a team and had two runners finish in the top-five individuals. Senior Stan Melkumian was 3rd and Ben La Prad was 4th.
