Monmouth-Roseville’s Grant Says the Move to the TRAC Was a Long Process

Monmouth-Roseville High School’s recent shift from the West Central Conference to the Three Rivers Athletic Conference for all sports seemed like it happened overnight. In reality, the administration at Monmouth-Roseville has been working on finding a stable situation for its sports teams since 2012. That was around the time that there was an uneasiness among the West Central Conference’s athletic directors and coaches. There were rumors going around that Sherrard, Orion and Rockridge were looking to leave the West Central and it actually came to fruition in 2013, when the Three Rivers Conference was formed. Current Monmouth-Roseville varsity boys basketball coach, Chuck Grant was the athletic director during the prime days of the West Central Conference, starting his tenure as AD in 2009. Grant said he sensed that maybe the school needed to start looking for a more stable situation and began working towards that goal. Nate Johnson took over the AD position in 2014 at Monmouth-Roseville. It was at that time, the West Central Conference really started to disintegrate after the northern schools left the WCC. Like Grant, Johnson also searched for more secure circumstances. That continued when current Mon-Rose AD Jeremy Adolphson took over in 2017. All that hard work finally paid off this week with the official acceptance of the Three Rivers Conference invitation. Grant said it is rewarding to be part of the long process and it’s not only the sports teams that will benefit but other high school activities as well.
