Mrs. Betty J. Mohr, 91, of Galesburg, Illinois, formerly of Alexis, Illinois passed away 10:50 a.m. Tuesday, November 10, 2020 at Serenity of Lake Storey, Galesburg.
She was born November 18, 1928 in Pinckneyville, Illinois, the daughter of Alfred and Gertrude (Heinrich) Valentine. She married Clarence Mohr in the St. Paul’s United Church on January 31, 1948 in Pinckneyville. He preceded her in death on August 17, 2004.
She is survived by a son, George (and Cindy) Mohr, of Alexis; two daughters, Carol Sharber (and Jim Peary) of Canada and Linda White of Galesburg; a sister, Myrna Schonert of Olney, Illinois; four grandchildren, Bryan (and Lauren) Mohr, Racine, Wisconsin, Brad (and Hilary) Mohr, Denver, North Carolina, Jessica White (and Beth Haworth), Newport News, Virginia; and Libby White, Avon, Illinois. She was preceded in death by her parents; a son-in-law, Ron White; and a brother-in-law, Wayne Schonert.
Betty was confirmed and became a member of St. Paul’s United Church in 1942, in Pinckneyville, and was an active member of Church and Sunday school. After her marriage to Clarence, they lived near Pinckneyville until 1961, when they moved to a farm northwest of Galesburg. She then became an active member of Coldbrook Christian Church and Sunday school and was a past deaconess.
Betty graduated from Pinckneyville High School in 1946, and attended Southern Illinois University, Carbondale, Illinois. She was a homemaker and farm wife, worked at the Pie Factory, Dairy Queen and J.C. Penney in Galesburg. She loved sewing, quilting, reading, bird watching, and gardening.
Cremation was accorded. A private family memorial service will be Saturday, November 28, 2020, at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Funeral Directors and Cremation Services Galesburg Chapel.
