Sheriff Martin Edwards Says Don’t Let Your Guard Down on Winter Driving

Share

Sheriff Martin Edwards wants to remind residents that the recent winter weather has been a challenge for motorists and more weather is on the way tonight through tomorrow.

“We are going to get this next snow coming. I guess what all this leads up to is don’t let your guard down. Take your time and slow it down a little bit. It is still going to be very slick out there and by all means, I know it gets talked about a lot from other agencies, but make sure you have the right heavy clothes with you, boots, and gloves, and scarves, all the things you will need if you get stranded for a period of time. In a really bad storm situation, it could be a long time before someone comes out to get you.”

Sheriff Edwards says do not leave your vehicle unless you can see shelter and safely be able to reach it in a timely manner. The national weather service says  another round of light snow is likely Friday afternoon through Saturday morning. There is a moderate to high potential for 1inch or more of accumulation across the outlook area. The best chances for 2 or more inches are south of a line from Galena, Illinois to Cedar Rapids, Iowa to Belle Plaine, Iowa and north of highway 34. Additionally, north to northwest winds may lead to blowing and drifting snow. Very cold temperatures and well below zero wind chills are expected across the area into early next week. The coldest readings are likely from Saturday night into Monday.
