Galesburg, IL (March 22, 2021) The Galesburg Police Department had a busy weekend, with several incidents leading to arrests.
On Friday, March 19, 2021, Tyler P. Lytle, age 27, was observed driving a vehicle with a suspended driver’s license. When Lytle was stopped, officers attempted to arrest him. Lytle attempted to get away from the officers and fought, trying several times to get his hands into his pockets. Lytle was taken into custody with the use of a taser and was not injured. In the pocket Lytle was reaching into was a 5 inch throwing knife. Methamphetamine was later located in the vehicle. Lytle is a convicted felon, and was charged with felon in possession of a weapon, possession of methamphetamine, resisting arrest, and driving while revoked.
On Friday, March 19, 2021, a traffic stop was made on Larry D. Pettis III, age 21. Loose cannabis was observed in the vehicle. A search of the vehicle found a stolen Ruger 9mm handgun, approximately 214 grams of cannabis, and scales. Pettis was arrested and charged with possession of a stolen firearm, armed violence, and possession of cannabis with the intent to deliver.
On Saturday, March 20, 2021, a bicycle stop was made on Ramsey M. Essex, age 25. He was riding the bike down the middle of the road at midnight with no lights on the bike. Essex was found to be wanted on warrant, and when the officer attempted to arrest Essex, he fought with the officer. Essex attacked the officer and knocked the officer to the ground. Essex tried to get to his backpack, which he had dropped. The officer was able to wrap his legs around Essex to keep him from getting to the backpack. When back-up arrived, Essex was taken into custody and handcuffed. Inside the backpack, a .22 caliber revolver was located along with methamphetamine. Essex is a convicted felon. Essex has been charged with armed violence, possession of a firearm by a felon, aggravated battery to a peace officer, and multiple warrants. One warrant was for a prior charge of felon in possession of a firearm.
On Sunday, March 21, 2021, officers attempted a traffic stop on a vehicle a Main Street and McClure Street. The vehicle fled from the officer and drove to the 1500 block of McKnight Street. There the driver, Angel R Towns-Brundidge, age 39, and the passenger, Raymond C Brundidge, age 35, were taken into custody. In the glove box of the vehicle a 9mm Highpoint pistol was located. Raymond, who is a convicted felon, admitted that the gun belonged to him for protection. Angel was charged with fleeing and eluding a police officer. Raymond was charged with possession of a firearm by a felon. Raymond has two prior convictions for possession of firearms.
