Local High School and Junior High Sports Update for March 10, 2021

Basketball

The Monmouth-Roseville Titan girls basketball team ended their season with a home game against a very good Illini West Charger squad. The Chargers led throughout much of the game, but never by more than seven points, with most of it lingering between a two to five point separation. Illini West led 13-8 at the end of the first quarter but the Titans would close the gap to one at the halftime break. The Chargers outscored the Titans 14-9 in the 3rd to lead 34-28 going into the fourth quarter. Monmouth-Roseville was forced to foul in the final few minutes and the lead stretched to ten at the final horn, as Illini West improves to (13-1) on the season with a 54-44 win. The Titans end their season at (10-4). Mattie Gillen led Monmouth-Roseville in scoring with 14. Ryley Huston, who was saddled with foul trouble in the first half, was also in double figures for the Titans with 11. Standout junior point guard Caydee Kirkham led all scorers in the game with 22 for Illini West.

The Ridgewood Spartan girls basketball team lost to Princeville 52-42 to end their season at (9-6). Brecken Adamson led Ridgewood with 20 points.

The Abingdon-Avon boys basketball team moved one game closer to the .500 mark on the season with a 51-48 win over Bushnell-Prairie City. The Tornadoes are now (6-7).

The Knoxville Blue Bullet boys basketball team traveled to play Bloomington Central Catholic last night. The Bullets fall to (12-3) with an 80-47 loss.

Bowling

The Galesburg Silver Streak girls bowling team defeated Sterling 2894 to 2558. Chloe Day led the way in scoring for Galesburg with a 581 series. She was followed closely by Casey Folger with a 579 series. Day had the overall high game with a 226. The Streaks will compete in the Western Big 6 tournament on Saturday at Abbe Lanes in Abingdon.

Junior High

The Monmouth-Roseville Jr. High basketball teams hosted Rockridge Wednesday night. The 7th grade Titans dropped their game 34-23. Leading Titan Scorers, included Landyn Angelo with 12 and Drew Carlson with 8. The 8th grade Titans fell to the Rockets 51-20. Junior Avendano led the Titans with 6 points.

The ICS Trojan junior high boys basketball split a pair of games against Cambridge last night. The 7th grade Trojans won 48-15. Andrew Way led ICS with 16, with Elijah Noel scoring 12. The 8th grade Trojans lost 40-25. Way led the way again for ICS with ten points.
