Dorothy Pauline Oge, age 92, of Stronghurst, Illinois, passed away Monday June 28, 2021 at Oak Lane Nursing & Rehab in Stronghurst.  She was born May 15, 1929 on the family farm near Stronghurst, the daughter of Paul and Hazel Peterson Strand. On November 22, 1962, she married Richard Oge at Bethel Lutheran Church in Stronghurst. He preceded her in death on July 10, 2008

Pauline attended Union Country School and graduated from Stronghurst High School with the Class of 1947.  Following high school, she attended cosmetology school in Burlington, Iowa.

Pauline had been employed at Sylvania Corporation and then IRC in Burlington.  After adopting their daughter, Paula, in December of 1966, she quit her job at IRC.  She became a stay-at-home mom and babysat for many families in the Stronghurst area.  Later she was employed by the Southern School District as a cook and then became the Elementary Secretary for fifteen years, retiring in 1992.

Pauline was a lifelong member of the Bethel Lutheran Church where she was in the Luther Anns, Ester Unit and Marks & Marthas.  She was a member of the Community Senior Citizens and Red Hat Ladies.  Through the years, she spent several hours volunteering at Oak Lane.

Pauline loved playing bingo, cards and dominoes.  She loved to travel.  She had an infectious laugh and was always the life of the party. She was an adventurous soul who loved life and always had a kind word to say to someone.  She enjoyed being a grandma and loved to watch her grandchildren in all of their sports and activities.  She loved becoming a great-grandma and spoiling those babies.

Survivors include her daughter; Paula (Steve) Haight of Cedar Rapids, IA, three grandchildren; Ashley (Jordan) Kjome of Arlington, WA, Nicholas (Caitlin) Haight and Gunner Haight, both of Cedar Rapids, IA, two great grandchildren; Weston Nicholas Haight and Oaklyn Grace Haight, both of Cedar Rapids, IA, a step son; Henry “Butch” LaFayette of Sacramento, CA, and two sisters; Jeanette LaFayette and Carol Myers, both of Stronghurst. She was preceded in death by her husband and parents.

The funeral service will be at 10:00 a.m. Saturday July 3, 2021 in the Bethel Lutheran Church of Stronghurst.  Visitation will be from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. Friday at Banks & Beals Funeral Home in Stronghurst. Burial will follow in the Stronghurst Cemetery. Memorials have been established for Bethel Lutheran Church, Oakwood Estates and Oak Lane Nursing & Rehab, all in Stronghurst.
