The Carl Sandburg College softball team had four players voted to the 2021 All-Arrowhead Conference team.
Infielders Maddi Benson (Spring Bay, Ill./Metamora) and Kayla Wolf (Chillicothe, Ill./Illinois Valley Central) as well as outfielders Rylee Krebsbach (Aledo, Ill./Sherrard) and Kelsey Hobson (Bartonville, Ill./Limestone) were selected by league coaches to the all-conference team.
A sophomore left fielder, Krebsbach had 68 plate appearances while playing in all 18 conference games for the Chargers this spring and led the team in average (.477), on-base percentage (.493), OPS (1.154), hits (31), triples (five), total bases (43) and steals (five, in five attempts). Krebsbach also finished second among Sandburg players in slugging (.662), RBIs (16) and runs (18) against conference opponents.
A sophomore center fielder, Hobson scored a team-leading 22 runs and drew a Sandburg-best seven walks in 16 conference games. In 62 plate appearances, the Chargers’ leadoff batter hit .389/.452/.500 for a .952 OPS.
Benson, the Chargers’ freshman first baseman, led the team with two homers, 20 RBIs, 11 extra-base hits and a .695 slugging percentage in 62 plate appearances while playing in every Arrowhead game. Her .424 average, 1.130 OPS, 25 hits, eight doubles and 41 total bases were second on the team in conference play.
A freshman third baseman/catcher, Wolf knocked out a team-high nine doubles over 62 plate appearances in 18 conference games. She hit .397/.419/.552 against Arrowhead opponents while scoring 12 runs and driving in 16.
