The June board meeting for the United School District was financially oriented as the budget was amended says Superintendent Jeff Whitsitt:

“It was such a strange year for a number of reasons, but we overspent in a couple areas, but it is only because we got extra money in so many areas. We got handed all this COVID money that when we did our budget, we didn’t know necessarily that we were going to get. We sat down and worked with our teachers and our instructional coaches really drove that this year as far as how we should spend our COVID relief money and summer school was high on our priority list. So, we had to amend our budget a little bit. I don’t think any numbers are crazy alarming and so I still feel good about our budget and where we are at with our fund balances.”

Whitsitt also updated the board on the progress of all the ongoing projects throughout the district: the HVAC and air conditioning at the high school continues, door replacement work and playground work at the elementary buildings are completed, and the new all-weather track project is on pace to be completed in July.
