Car Show Preparation Includes Reminders About Public Safety

The Maple City Street Machines’ Cruise Night returns Friday, August 6, after a one-year absence. Monmouth Police Chief Joe Switzer shares several reminders about public safety surrounding the event.

“With so many people walking in the downtown area,” Switzer says, “it’s best to leave your dogs at home. Don’t ride your bikes through the crowd. There’s so many people, and a real opportunity for someone to get hurt. I believe the Bird scooters will also be disabled during the show.”

If you’re planning to be in the Maple City on August 6, Chief Switzer wants to make sure motorists are aware of street closures.

“(The closures) usually go down to 4th on South Main, A Street on West Broadway, and Second on East Broadway, to accommodate the banks and their drive-through facilities,” Switzer said. “The entire Public Square, and then on North Main it depends on how many cars we have. Sometimes we’ve had it go to Euclid, sometimes all the way to Harlem.”

The car show is scheduled to run from noon until 8 p.m. For more information, contact the Monmouth Chamber of Commerce at (309) 734-3181.
