Consider Neighborhood Pets this Independence Day Weekend

Share

Make sure to consider your pet’s health and well-being this Independence Day Holiday. That is the message from agencies nationwide. The head of the Alton Area Animal Aid Association is reinforcing that plea, asking you to keep your pets inside and away from any commotion you expect during the holiday.

5A’s Executive Director Ric Jun says even the best-behaved dogs can get spooked around the boom of fireworks and run away.

“Hopefully people would have had them chipped for if they are picked up, we can get them back to the families. If they do have some that run off in our area here, give us a call and let us know. If they are chipped, we will be on the lookout. If they are not, at least we know. If a lab is running loose and if it comes in we might be able to have somebody to call to and get them back with their rightful home.”

He suggests keeping your pet inside and stay near them. When it’s time to let your dog out, Jun says to walk them instead of just letting them out to roam.
