The good Lord took Juanita Carol Jarvis, Master Gardener and Prayer Warrior, to His home on July 8, 2021, to tend His gardens, and to take the lead in His prayer groups.  

She was born June 17, 1941 in rural Dallas City, Illinois, the daughter of Carroll and Vella Rexroat Ochsner.  On August 17, 1958, she married Garry Jarvis in Dallas City.  He preceded her in death on June 23, 2014.

Juanita was valedictorian of the class of 1959 at Dallas City High School. She completed courses through the University Of Illinois Extension and was certified as a Master Gardener.  She had been employed at the Lomax Canning Factory, Sylvania Corporation, and was a receptionist for Dr. Allaman for many years.  She was also owner and operator of G & J Service Station in Stronghurst and later owned J J’s Good Earth Garden & Gifts.  She was a member of the Red Hat Society, and was a Lay Minister for the Stronghurst United Methodist Church, where she served on the Church Board and was active in the United Methodist Women.  She also played the keyboard for both the Carman and Stronghurst United Methodist Churches.

Survivors include four sons; Larry Jarvis of Macomb, IL, Jerry (Krystal) Jarvis of Milwaukee, WI, Terry (Young Suk) Jarvis of Portland, OR, and Randy Jarvis of Stronghurst, five grandchildren; Brandon Jarvis, Shannon Hatcher, Kevin Jarvis, Joann Jarvis, and Valerie Jarvis-McQuillen.  She was preceded in death by her parents, one son; John Lee Jarvis; and one brother; Robert Ochsner.

The funeral will be at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday July 14, 2021 at the Stronghurst United Methodist Chruch with Pastor Lisa Unger officiating.  Burial will follow in the Stronghurst Cemetery.  Community Visitation will be from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m. Tuesday at Banks & Beals Funeral Home in Stronghurst.  A memorial fund has been established for the Stronghurst United Methodist Church.  Please visit Juanita’s obituary at banksandbeals.com to sign the guest book and leave a condolence.
