New COVID-19 cases in Illinois Tuesday hit the highest daily total since early May. The Illinois Department of Public Health is reporting 2,682 new and probable cases, a level not seen since may seventh. But more people have been getting tested and vaccinations are increasing as well over the past week. Monday, Governor JB Pritzker repeated his call for people to be cautious.

“We want to encourage, strongly encourage, people to wear masks indoors and, this is very important, please, please, the most important thing you can do to keep yourself, your community, and your family safe, is to get vaccinated. It is easily available now.”

Nearly 59 percent of the Illinois population age 12 and up is now fully vaccinated. All but seven counties are currently at “Substantial” or “High” levels of virus transmission.
