Armed Robbery Suspect in Custody

Galesburg Police Department Press Release

On Wednesday, August 4, 2021, at 10:44 pm, the Galesburg Police Department responded to Shell Express on Grand Avenue in reference to an armed robbery that had just occurred. Upon arrival, it was found that a male subject had pulled a knife on the clerk and threatened to kill her if she did not give him all the cash from the cash register. The suspect took the cash from the register and departed. The clerk gave a description of the suspect and indicated that she was familiar with him as he was in the store regularly.Deputies from the Knox County Sheriff’s office also responded, and based on the physical description provided, deputies located the suspect a short distance away and apprehended him. The suspect has been identified as Darrin W. Riddle, age 56. In speaking with officers, Riddle stated that he robbed the gas station because he is a drug addict and needed money to buy more drugs. Darrin Riddle was taken to the Knox County Jail and charged with Armed Robbery. He remains in the Knox County Jail awaiting a court appearance.
