Fighting Scots Prepare for Season Opener at No. 18 Wartburg

It’s been 651 days since Monmouth College played its last football game and head coach Chad Braun says his team can’t wait to get back onto the field and line up against an opponent other than themselves.

“It’s been really fun being back around our players,” Braun said this week during his weekly interview with WRAM Sports Director Shawn Temple. “Right when we got back to camp. Seeing guys put on helmets for the first time in two years; seeing guys put on shoulder pads for the first time in two years.

“A lot of excitement, our guys are hungry.”

Braun, who begins his sixth season as head coach Saturday when the Fighting Scots travel to Waverly, Iowa, to face No. 18 Wartburg College, believes his team is ready to jump back into live competition under game conditions.

“We’ve done a joint practice (against Augustana) where we got to hit some other guys from another team,” Braun said, “and that was a great experience for our guys, and I think their guys, too.

“Now, we get to go do it and it counts this time. Our guys are super excited for the opportunity and we have a great challenge in front of us.”

Tune in at 7 p.m. Saturday on WRAM 1330 AM and Radiomonmouth.com when the Fighting Scots open the 2021 season at Wartburg College in Waverly, Iowa.
