Harold McDonald Hickerson, 94 of Galesburg and formerly of Abingdon, passed away at 7:28 a.m. Friday, November 13, 2020 at the Marigold Rehab & Health Care Center in Galesburg.

  He was born November 9, 1926 near Hardinsburg, Kentucky, the son of Judson W. and Cora Mae (Hook) Hickerson.  He married Margery P. Allen in August of 1945.  He later married R. Louise Scott in 1988 in Galesburg.

  Harold is survived by one daughter, Marcia (Mike) Morris of Oneida; one son, Harold Dean “Sonny” Hickerson of Abingdon; six grandchildren, Jerry (Julie) Baker of Avon, Kim (Eric) Isaacson of Plainfield, Tina Collette of New Berlin, Wisconsin, and Shawn (Cathy) McClure of Oswego, Daphne (Shea) Fox of Manchester, Missouri, and Heather Hickerson of Peoria; two step-grandchildren, Diane (Fred) Andrews of Abingdon, and Bryan Morris of Normal; ten great-grandchildren, Acacia (and Dan) Wiechmann, Kyanne Baker, Amanda and Emily Collette, Peyton and Ryan Isaacson, Declan and Aidan McClure, and Brandon and Hannah Fox; two step-great-grandchildren, Lucas and Kayann Andrews; and two great-great-grandchildren, Melia and Calette Wiechmann; one brother, Maurice (Margaret) Hickerson of Avon; and nieces, nephews, cousins and their families

  He was preceded in death by his parents, an infant son, Kevin Eugene Hickerson, a daughter, Kathleen Baker, an infant sister, Jaunita, a sister, Reba Cook, six brothers, Monroe, Houston, Logan, Dick, Floyd and Richard, and a grandson, D. Kevin Baker.

  Harold moved to Illinois with his family in 1930.  He worked for the M & St. L Railroad, farmed west of Abingdon for 20 years, worked at Sturdylight Furniture in Monmouth for 2 years, the State of Illinois Highway Department for 5 ½ years and at the Abingdon Pottery for 15 years, retiring in 1976.  His hobbies included hunting, fishing, gardening and mushroom hunting.  He always looked forward to visits from the grandkids, neighbors and friends, who checked on him often.

  Cremation was accorded.  Graveside service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, August 14, 2021 at East Linwood Cemetery in Galesburg.  Rev. Will Brown will officiate.  Following the graveside service, the family will continue to celebrate Harold’s life and the life of his daughter, Kathleen Roberts (who passed away on Tuesday, May 5, 2020), in a time of food and fellowship at the Abingdon Christian Church, 409 S. Main St., Abingdon, IL.  Eulogies will be offered at 12:30 p.m.  Hinchliff-Pearson-West Funeral Directors and Cremation Services Abingdon Chapel is assisting his family with arrangements.
