Gwyneth “Gwen” J. Gabbert, 80, of Abingdon, passed away Thursday morning, November 11, 2021, at her home.

  She was born December 6, 1940 in Anselmo, Nebraska, the daughter of Charles L. and Helen I. (Porter) Williams.  She married Glen C. Gabbert on February 21, 1960 in Galesburg.

  Gwen is survived by her husband, Glen; four sons, Steven L. (Lolita) Gabbert of Oak Harbor, Washington, Jeffery G. Gabbert of Abingdon, Gary D. (Shannon) Gabbert of Abingdon and Rodney D. (Cheri) Gabbert of LaGrange, Kentucky; eleven grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews and their families.

  She was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers, Richard Williams and Charles Williams, and five sisters, Carol Spencer, Roberta Napier, Maxine Riggs, Doras Peck and Barbara Bent.

  She grew up in Galesburg and graduated from Galesburg High School in 1958.  She worked at C&E Super Value in Galesburg for thirteen years, was a day care provider for seventeen years, was a Librarian at John Mosser Public Library in Abingdon for six years, and delivered the Galesburg Register-Mail for thirteen months.  She retired in December of 2000.  In retirement, she worked as a tour guide for area gambling bus trips. 

  Gwen was a member of the Abingdon United Methodist Church.  She was also a member of the Junior Women’s Club and was a volunteer for Feed My Lambs.  In her earlier years, she was an avid bowler and Cub Scout Den Mother.  She collected Precious Moments Figurines.

  Gwen’s funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, November 16, 2021 at the Hinchliff-Pearson-West Funeral Directors and Cremation Services Abingdon Chapel.

Rev. Dr. Scott Carnes will officiate.  Burial will be in Oak Lawn Memorial Gardens in Galesburg.  Visitation will be held from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. Tuesday at the chapel.  As recommended by the CDC and IDPH Covid-19 Guidelines, facemasks are suggested for those attending.  Services will also be livestreamed beginning at 11 a.m.at https://www.facebook.com/Hinchliff-Pearson-West-Funeral-Directors-and-Cremation-Services-160333664037824.
