Wilda Mae “Nana” Thompson, age 82, of Oquawka, Illinois, passed away at 1:58 am at the Monmouth Nursing Home in Monmouth, Illinois. Mae was born on January 4, 1942 in rural Kirkwood, Illinois and is the daughter of Milford Joseph and Dorothy Opal VanMeter Decker. Nana attended elementary grades in Monmouth Schools and after moving to Oquawka she attended High School in the Oquawka High School and the class of 1960. ” Nana ” was previously married to Dorance Vice, and later married Delbert LeRoy Thompson.  Mae first worked and was employed at Glastex Manufacturing in Monmouth, Illinois for a time, and later was a line person at Maytag / Admiral Corporation in Galesburg to her retirement. Mae loved to go to Bingo and liked working in her garden. She loved her cats and her dogs, and most of all her family and grandchildren. She loved car rides and loved ice cream and the river.  

She is survived by three daughters,  Kathy Frye of Calera, Alabama, Tammy Mitchell and Todd of Oquawka, Illinois, and Tabitha Cooper and Jay of Oquawka, Illinois. Two sons survive her, Danny Vice and Kelli of Moline, Illinois, and Tim Vice and Cindy of Oquawka, Illinois. There are two step daughters, Vicki Gotaas and Brad of Oquawka, Illinois and Terry Carr and Dave of Monmouth, Illinois and her step son Dopher Thompson and Carm of Oquawka, Illinois Her daughter in law also is surviving, Kim Polhans of Monmouth, Illinois. There are numerous gandchildren and great grandchildren, and step grandchildren and step great grand children, also surviving. Nana has four sisters who survive, Josie Cooper in Oklahoma, Virginia Ann Burt in Indiana, Caroline Hawks and Woody in Oqauwka, Illinois and Kathy Edwards of Galesburg, Illinois, Sherri Carlson in Michigan, and her brother Russell “Rusty” Decker and Phyllis of Gladstone, Illinois. Mae is preceded in her death by her parents, one son, Dwight, one sister, two brothers, and her grandson Robbie Vice. 

A funeral service for Mae “Nana” Thompson is planned on Monday July 1, 2024 at 11:00 am at Turnbull Funeral Home in Oquawka, Illinois. Her family plans visitation and will receive their friends from 10:00 am to 11:00 am prior to the service at the funeral home. Interment will follow in the Oquawka Cemetery.
