Scots Athletic Scheduling Gets Trickier During Pandemic Uptick, Says SID Baliva

The 2022 Monmouth College athletic season was scheduled to resume Tuesday but both the men’s and women’s basketball games at Lawrence University have been postponed until a later date.

Both Scots basketball teams instead will wait until Saturday when they travel to Beloit College for a Midwest Conference doubleheader.

Sports Information Director Nathan Baliva discusses how the virus protocols have affected the day-to-day activities of the Scots’ student-athletes and coaching staffs:

“It’s a challenge for the coaches, it’s a challenge for Coach (Roger) Haynes when it comes to scheduling,” Baliva said. “For our strength and conditioning Coach Bob Foster, to make sure all these young men and women are staying in shape and staying healthy and taking care of their bodies.

“Because, if you’re playing three, four games a week, when you’re used to playing one or two — whether it’s at the high school or the college level — that’s not fun, and it can really be taxing. There’s going to be some more things to figure out, so we’ll see how it goes.”

Next week’s Monmouth College athletic schedule includes the swim team’s Senior Day home meet against Knox College on Saturday, January 15, in addition to the track team’s indoor season-opening meet at the Huff Athletic Center, also on the 15th.
