The United Red Storm girls basketball team will head into their season-opening tournament next week with some positive buzz around the program. The Red Storm ended the 2023-24 season at (16-12) overall, a 7 win-improvement over the previous year. The girls lost a close game to perennial power Brimfield in the regional semifinals. Interestingly enough, United’s solid season was accomplished despite having no seniors on the roster. This season, the Red Storm will sport a plethora of seniors with at least two years of varsity playing experience. Chris Olson is in his 3rd season as the head coach of the Red Storm girls basketball team. Olson is most certainly excited about finally having some seniors on the court but also knows that doesn’t mean that success is guaranteed.
The Red Storm girls basketball team will join the United boys basketball team and the wrestling squad for the annual winter sports Meet the Red Storm Junior High and High School Winter Sports Tip-Off on Friday, Nov. 15th at the Fieldhouse at United High School. The night will start at 5:00 with the Red Storm Sports Boosters providing a free-will donation meal consisting of a bar-b-que pork sandwich, beans, chips and water. The high school and junior high winter sports teams and cheerleaders will be announced starting at 6:00. Gatorade donations would be appreciated, as well.
The United girls basketball team starts their season at the ROWVA/Williamsfield-Ridgewood Pre-Thanksgiving Tournament on Monday with their first of two pool play games. The Red Storm will play Orion at 6:00 at ROWVA High School in Oneida and Abingdon-Avon on Tuesday at 6:00 at Williamsfield High School. The tournament wraps up on Friday and Saturday.
