Two Important Games on PCSN on Friday Night

We’ve got a great pair of games on the PCSN tonight, originating from the Three Rivers Conference and the Lincoln Trail Conference. The Monmouth-Roseville boys basketball team is looking to get back in the win column following a tough 71-57 loss to a very good Riverdale ball club Tuesday night in a Three Rivers Conference West Division match up in Port Byron. The hard-fought, physical battle saw the Titans trail by double digits at the half but also saw them go on a 9-0 run to start the second half to cut the deficit to two points, but just could not get over the hump as the Rams stretched the lead to 20 at one point in the fourth quarter. Monmouth-Roseville head coach Jake Sottos was proud of the way his team handled themselves throughout the intense road game that had several Riverdale fans and a clock operator at the scorer’s table thrown out of the gymnasium and multiple technicals on Riverdale players.

Monmouth-Roseville falls to (11-8) overall following the loss and has their long-time Olympic and West Central Conference rivals, the (7-11) Sherrard Tigers, at the Shoebox at Monmouth-Roseville High School tonight for another TRAC West Division affair. We’ll have it on Sunny 97.7 WMOI and online at radiomonmouth.com with the pregame show starting at 6:45.

Our other game on the PCSN tonight is a huge match up, in many ways, in the Lincoln Trail Conference. The United Red Storm, gutted out an overtime victory on Tuesday at home against Abingdon-Avon, travel to Alwood High School in Woodhull for a game against the Ridgewood Spartans. The Spartans have won seven games in a row and, like United, have an overall record of (15-4). They beat the Red Storm 55-48 on December 17th in the championship game of the United Holiday Tournament. The big difference between the two clubs have been inside LTC play, Ridgewood has yet to lose a game in league play and at (4-0), are a half-game behind conference leader Knoxville at (5-0). United shared the Lincoln Trail Conference championship with Wethersfield in the shortened spring season last school year. The Red Storm have two losses in-conference this season, against Knoxville and Mercer County, so they can ill-afford another one if they want to get themselves back in the race. To top it off, the seed-meeting for next week’s LTC boys basketball tournament takes place on Sunday night. At (2-2) currently, the Red Storm find themselves in a jumbled mess in the middle of the conference standings, so a win tonight would help their chances at a top-four seed. Lots of sub-plots tonight and you can hear the game on AM 1330/FM 94.1 WRAM or online at radiomonmouth.com with the pregame show at 7:15.
