The United Red Storm 8th grade boys basketball squad won the LTC Championship game on Thursday night over Galva by the score of 39-36. In what would be a tight contest throughout, the Red Storm got out to an early lead, taking a 12-8 lead after one period behind 7 points from Ian Leffler. United would maintain their lead into the halftime break. Down 19-15 to start the second half, Galva got their offense going and they would outscore the Red Storm 12-7 to grab a 27-26 lead. With a good crowd on both sides of the gym, each team came out with great energy to begin the fourth, but the Red Storm would outscore Galva 13-9 behind 6 points from Chance Stewart and big free throws from both Aiden Martin and Tucker Smith. Leading the scoring for United was the trio of Aiden Martin, Tucker Smith and Ian Leffler, all with 9 points. Chance Stewart added 6, Nolan Jenks 4 and Eli Vancil 2. With the win, the 8th grade boys join their Red Storm 7th grade counterparts as this season’s LTC tournament champions.
