Here’s the WMOI/WRAM Athletes of the Week for the week ending January 16, 2022:

The Monmouth-Roseville Titan Athlete of the Week is freshman wrestler, Liam Spears. Liam has started his varsity career with solid results. He garnered three wins last week out of four matches, with all those coming by way of pinfall. Coming into this week, Liam was tied for the team lead in victories with 13.

The United Red Storm Athlete of the Week is senior girls basketball player, Laney Butler. As the season gets past the halfway point, sharp-shooter Laney might be heating up at the right time. She scored in double figures in a LTC Tournament loss to Knoxville with 11 points, including a a pair of 3-pointers. Laney made two more 3-balls in a tournament win over Galva earlier in the week.

The West Central Heat Athlete of the Week is senior girls basketball player, Bre Kidd. Bre was on fire for the Heat in a narrow overtime loss to Abingdon-Avon in the LTC Tournament. She scored 16 points and drilled a pair of 3-pointers. Bre had a good week overall, scoring an average of 10 points in her team’s 3 games last week.

The Galesburg Silver Streak Athlete of the Week is senior girls basketball player, Abby Lingafelter. Abby contributed in a multitude of ways in last week’s two Western Big Six Conference wins. She averaged nearly a double-double of points and rebounds between the two contests. Abby pulled down 14 rebounds and had 11 points in the victory over Moline.

The Abingdon-Avon Tornado Athlete of the Week is senior girls basketball player, Bailey Dickerson. Bailey has just been waiting to explode, and explode she did against West Central in the LTC Tournament. She nailed 7, 3-point shots for a total of 21 points. Five of Bailey’s seven 3’s were in the all-important 4th quarter and overtime.
