Charles Buddy Rogers, 91 of Abingdon, passed away at 7:20 a.m. Wednesday, February 9, 2022 at OSF St. Mary Medical Center in Galesburg.

  He was born October 25, 1930 in Benton, Illinois, the son of William R. and Mabel (McGuire) Rogers.  He married Velma M. Goodin on November 16, 1952 in Bushnell. She preceded him in death on March 7, 2016. He was also preceded in death by his parents, and two sisters-in-laws, Esther Rogers and Dorothy Goff.

  Bud is survived by his children, Kendal (Anne) Rogers of Monmouth, Judy (Steve) Brown of Cairo, Missouri, Jennifer Dalton of Abingdon and Joni (Dave) Rogan of O’Fallon, Missouri; eight grandchildren, Reanna Hoffman, Mandy Brown, Katy (Drew) Carter, Logan Dalton, Hannah Dalton, Kylee Rogan, Megan Rogan and Ben Rogan, and six great-grandchildren; two brothers, James T. Rogers of Decatur and Gerald (Judy) Rogers of Decatur; one sister, Beverly Donovan of Gardner, Kansas; a brother-in-law, Dwight (Evelyn) Goodin of Rockford; and several nieces, nephews and their families.

He graduated from Benton High School in 1948 and then served in the U.S. Air Force from January 4, 1951 until January 7, 1955, during the Korean War. He has lived in Abingdon most of his married life. He worked at Gale Products in Galesburg for 30 years and later worked as a custodian for the Abingdon School District for 25 years, retiring in 2010. He was a member of the New Harvest Church in Abingdon. He loved gardening, working on lawn mowers, riding his scooter around town, and cutting fire wood. He was an avid sports fan of the St. Louis Cardinals and the Fighting Illini, and he enjoyed watching the Abingdon Commando and Abingdon/Avon Tornadoes basketball teams.

Funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, February 15, 2022 at the New Harvest Church, 835 W. Martin St. in Abingdon. Burial with military rites will be in the Abingdon Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. Tuesday at the church. Hinchliff-Pearson-West Funeral Directors and Cremation Services Abingdon Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
