Is There a Connection Between COVID and Diabetes? OSF Diabetes Support Group Will Tackle the Subject Monday

Share

The Diabetes Support Group at OSF Holy Family Medical Center in Monmouth meets monthly to provide education and support to those with diabetes and their caregivers. Diabetes Education Coordinator Tina Canada shares this month’s topic will cover research findings of diabetes and COVID-19:

“There are still a lot of unknowns with COVID-19. We have had a lot of different variants and have found different ways to treat it and developed vaccines, but there still are a lot of unknowns. People ask since they have diabetes are they more likely to get COVID-19 and that is definitely no. You are not more susceptible to it, it does depend on your exposure, but you are not more likely to develop COVID-19 with diabetes. We have seen with people with diabetes and those with metabolic syndrome often have a more severe case of COVID-19.”

For more discussion on these questions, attend the Diabetes Support Group in the Wellness Classroom at OSF Holy Family on Monday, March 28th at 5 pm.
