While gas prices continue to rise across the country, Monmouth-Roseville Superintendent Ed Fletcher says right now the concerns are not a challenge; however, next semester will see the impact:
“Right now, it is not going to have much of an affect because we bid out fuel prices in the prior year. We have prices and they are set, so right now it is not much of an issue, but it will be an issue next year. We will bid this out this spring and of course prices will probably be pretty high at that time, maybe they go down, who knows, but yes it could certainly have an effect. The other side of that would be the natural gas prices. For schools, the heating season is getting ready to end. We do aggregate pricing through a company and have done that for the last couple of years. That is beneficial, there is still an increase, but it is not as much of an increase as if we didn’t do that. Anytime those raw material prices go up, it affects the schools.”
Superintendent Fletcher says a major move for the future would be the discussion of incorporating electric buses like some school districts have transitioned to.
