Shirley Faye Campbell 85, of Courtyard Estates in Monmouth, formerly of Alexis, Il for over 60 years passed away on March 22, 2022, at 10:57 a.m. in Monmouth Nursing Home. She was born January 15, 1937, in Polo, Il the daughter of Fay and Kathryn (Rogers) Burkholder. She married Franklin Campbell on July 31, 1960, at the East Jordan United Methodist Church in rural Polo, Il.
She is survived by her Husband Franklin of Monmouth, Il, and nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, sisters Rhonda K Burkholder, and Pearl Ann (Infant). Her brothers Arlyn Burkholder and Roger Burkholder.
Shirley graduated from Polo High school in 1954. She attended Northern Illinois University in DeKalb Il with her degree in Home Economics. Shirley taught for two years in Little York High School; she then finished her career at Alexis High School for 32 years. For many years she and Frank enjoyed tent camping in their younger days on vacation. They also did a lot of canning and freezing vegetables from their garden in the summer. Shirley was a member of the North Henderson United Methodist Church. She was a member of the Kelly Patches and Pans Home Extension, Mercer County Retired Teachers, Alexis Quilt and Guild, and Cottage Rehab and Sports Medicine. Up until a few years ago, she loved to walk the streets of Alexis for her exercise. She also loved to do crossword puzzles and quilting. She and Frank attended most Alexis and United sporting events over the years.
Graveside Service will be held Saturday, March 26, 2022, at 11:30 a.m. at Alexis Cemetery, Alexis, Il. Memorials may be made to the North Henderson United Methodist Church.
