WMOI/WRAM Athletes of the Week:

The Monmouth-Roseville Titan Athlete of the Week is senior boys basketball player, Caleb Copeland. Caleb stepped into the point guard role for the Titans in his first season with the program and embraced the challenge. He scored five points and was 3-for-4 from the free throw line in a narrow loss to Knoxville in the regional semifinals. Caleb also contributed three rebounds and two assists in his team’s opening round win over Sherrard.

The United Red Storm Athlete of the Week is junior boys basketball player, Abel Wilson. Abel poured in 20 points in a regional semifinal win over Stark County. He followed that up with another double-digit scoring night, with 12 against Ridgewood in the regional championship. Abel also contributed in other ways, averaging four rebounds, two assists, along with going 4-for-5 from the free throw line in the two wins.

The West Central Heat Athlete of the Week is junior girls bowler, Bindi Bailey. Bindi ended a solid season with a 36th place finish at the Rock Island regional meet at Highland Park Bowl in Moline. She rolled a 6-game score of 826, including a high-game of 147. Bindi was one of the top bowlers for the girls at each meet all season long, at times posting the highest score on the team.

The Galesburg Silver Streak Athlete of the Week is sophomore girls basketball player, Kiarra Kilgore. Kiarra’s fantastic first season of varsity basketball ended with her earning a Western Big Six All-Conference first-team selection by conference coaches. Her season included finishing in second place in the entire conference in scoring, at 20 points a game, and tied for 3rd in rebounding, at over 8 boards a game.

The Abingdon-Avon Tornado Athlete of the Week is senior boys basketball player, Clay Slagel. Clay was playing his best basketball of the season when it counted. He averaged over 10 points a game in the two regional wins over Peoria Heights and Brimfield. Clay was also a beast on the boards, averaging five rebounds a game in those victories, as well.
