United Baseball Improves to 3-3 On the Season with Win Over Silver Streaks

The United Red Storm boys traveled to Galesburg on Tuesday to take on the Silver Streaks. United would prevail in a slugfest 12-7 to improve to 3-3 on the season. The Red Storm got 2 runs in the first when Elliott Copeland reached after being hit by a pitch, Cormaic Flynn walked and Colin Jenks would single in one and Nolan Leffler singled in another. Galesburg got 1 back in the first off starting pitcher Aiden Parkins. The Streaks would tie it in the second before each team got 1 in the third. United got their run on a Cormaic Flynn single an error and a fielder’s choice. After Galesburg tied it at three the Red Storm would put up 7 runs in the fourth to bust this one open. AJ Jenks started it with a single, Aiden Parkins walked before both would score on a Cormaic Flynn single. Colin Jenks was hit by a pitch . Run number 6 scored on a wild pitch before a Patrick Cassidy single drove home 2 more runs. Two more runs would score on wild pitches and United had a 10-3 lead. The score would then remain that way until the seventh when United would add 2 insurance runs as walks to AJ Jenks and Carter Rothzen preceded a sacrifice fly off the bat of Aiden Parkins and another run scoring single by Cormaic Flynn. Leading 12-3 the Red Storm did allow Galesburg to score 4 in the bottom of the seventh but the early onslaught of runs carried United to the win. Offensively the Red Storm collected 10 hits led by Cormaic Flynn with 4 and Nolan Leffler with 2. Elliott Copeland, Colin Jenks, Patrick Cassidy and AJ Jenks rounded out the hit parade. Aiden Parkins got the win with 6 2/3 innings while allowing 5 runs on 6 hits with 7 strikeouts. Jon Smith threw 1/3 of an inning with 2 runs and 2 hits being charged to him. The Red Storm will host Galva on Thursday.
