Red Storm Softball Falls to Orion in Just Third Game of the Season

Share

The United Red Storm softball team was back in action Tuesday night as they traveled to Orion. The Red Storm fell 10-7 in a back and forth contrst. United scored twice in the first on an RBI hit from Maddie Hepner. Orion would take the lead with 1 in the first and 2 in the second but the Red Storm came right back with 3 in the third. Luci Kane walked, Maddie Diaz singled before a Katie Douglas single loaded the bases. All three would score on an error and United led 5-3. Orion got 1 back in the bottom half of the inning but United came right back in the top of the fourth when Karragan Sperry homered to center field. Leading 6-4 the Red Storm were then punched back as Orion scored 4 runs to take the lead at 8-6. In the fifth the Red Storm got 1 run as Amber Brunswig walked and scored on a Madison Penn double to right field. Unfortunately that would be the Red Storm’s last run and Orion would tack on single runs in the fifth and sixth to get the victory. United had 9 hits in this one led by Maddie Diaz and Madison Penn with 2 each while Karragan Sperry, Luci Kane, Katie Douglas, Maddie Hepner and Amber Brunswig all added a hit. Maddie Hepner had 5 RBIs to lead the Red Storm. Hepner started on the mound and went 4 innings allowing 8 runs, only 3 of them earned while Amber Brunswig went 2 innings and allowed 2 runs with only 1 being earned. This Red Storm team doesn’t give up and will continue to work out their early season bugs as they host Peoria Central on Thursday.
