Chicago Mayor Sets Earlier Citywide Weekend Curfew

Share

Chicago is expanding its weekend curfew for minors after a spate of violence and St. Louis is considering a similar move. In Chicago, it had been set at 11 pm, but Mayor Lori Lightfoot’s announcing a change.

“I’m signing an executive order to move that curfew back on weekends to 10 p.m..”

The mayor says it will be in place for the foreseeable future. In Millennium Park, where a teen was shot and killed, unaccompanied minors are banned after 6 p.m. Thursday through Sunday. The ACLU is objecting to the move, arguing it punishes an entire group of people for the actions of a few. In St. Louis, city leaders are considering downtown curfews after a gunman opened fire in a crowd of teenagers Sunday night.
