ISP Offering New Incentives to Become a State Trooper

Share

The Illinois State Police is offering a new training program to attract more potential troopers. The lateral entry training program is designed for local law enforcement looking to become a state police trooper. Cadets will spend time at the academy in Springfield, but also complete some of the training at home says ISP Director Brendan Kelly.

“We are also going to go out and return to the area that they came from and be able to serve for the Illinois State Police there. We have vacancies everywhere across the state that we need to fill, so we will take people who are transferring laterally from other agencies and will return them from the area they came from.”

Additionally, a new state law lowers the retirement age for troopers from 60 to 55.
