Jeri L. Peterson was born February 13, 1935 in Washington, Iowa, the daughter of Theodore R. and Irene L. (Batterson) Anderson. She died Sunday, May 29, 2022 at Wesley Village in Macomb, Illinois where she had been a resident for nine years.

Reared and educated in Southeastern Iowa, Jeri received her B.S. Degree from Central Missouri State and her M.S. from the University of Arkansas.

Jeri married Jerry G. Hoenshel. Later she married Alonzo J. “Pete” Peterson on December 27, 1974 at Little Swan Lake in Avon, Illinois. Alonzo predeceased her in 2014.

Jeri is survived by her sister, Judith K. Jones of Macomb. Jeri is also survived by her stepchildren, Beverly (Jack) Cherney, Lisa Lincoln and Paul (Kathryn) Peterson, five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Jeri taught elementary and junior high school for 33 years in school districts in Iowa and Illinois.   She was a member of the Gamma Lambda Chapter of Delta Kappa Gamma International.  Before retiring from teaching in 1993, she was a member of the Illinois and Iowa Education Association and the National Education Association.

She was a member of the Roseville Science and Art Club, Elite Eight Bridge Club, Roseville Garden Club, Hat Grove Hatter’s of Roseville and Roseville Woman’s Club. She was a proud member of D.A.R. from both sides of her parents.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, June 2, 2022 at 11:00 a.m. at Wise Family Funeral Home, Avon, IL. Friends may call one hour prior to the services for a time of visitation. Interment will be in the Avon Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Roseville or Avon Public Libraries and left in the care of the funeral home. Wise Family Funeral Home, Avon, is in charge of the arrangements.
