WMOI/WRAM Athletes of the Week for the Week Ending May 22, 2022
Here’s the WMOI/WRAM Athletes of the Week for the week ending May 22, 2022:
The Monmouth-Roseville Titan Athlete of the Week is junior boys track and field athlete, Ethan Davis. Ethan qualified himself for the Class 2A State Finals in Charleston. His shot put toss of 48′ 6″ was good enough for 3rd place at the Metamora Sectional meet. That distance exceeded the qualifying distance to advance to the finals. He also placed 4th in the discus event in Metamora.
The United Red Storm Athlete of the Week is senior boys track and field athlete, Jacob Dutton. Jacob qualified himself for the Class 1A State Finals in Charleston. His discus toss of 134′ 8″ was good enough for 2nd place at the Kewanee Wethersfield Sectional meet. He also placed 5th in the shot put event in the sectional meet, as well.
The West Central Heat Athlete of the Week is senior girls track and field athlete, Ebony Thompson. In the winter, Ebony placed 8th in the shot put event at the unofficial indoor track and field state finals…..Illinois Prep Top Times Meet. Over the past weekend, she backed that up with another 8th place medal in the Class 1A Outdoor State Finals in Charleston with a toss of 36′ 8″.
The Galesburg Silver Streak Athlete of the Week is senior boys track and field athlete, Koen Derry. Koen participated in four very different events at the Class 2A Metamora Sectional meet. He qualified for the state finals in two of them. Koen won the triple jump event and was a part of the 4×200 meter relay team that placed 2nd. He was also 5th in the long jump and 7th in the high jump.
The Abingdon-Avon Tornado Athlete of the Week is senior baseball players, Parker Stoneking, Parker Darst and Leighton Damewood. All three young men were named to the Lincoln Trail Conference West Division’s All-Conference First Team for their play on the field this spring. More importantly, their work in the classroom earned all three of them a spot on the LTC’s All-Academic team, as well.
