2017 United High School graduate Kal Youngquist’s highly successful college baseball career ended on June 6th in the NCAA Division II World Series with a University of Illinois/Springfield 3-2 loss to Rollins, Florida. During his 3-year career at UIS, Kal was a first-team All-American, blasting 27 home runs, while hitting .371 and amassing an amazing 142 rbis. Also, this past spring, Youngquist was an Academic All-American for the second time. Counting the final four games of his 2nd season at UIS and the first 32 games of his final season, Kal had a 36-game hitting streak, which ended being 13th longest streak in NCAA Division II history. After a high school career for the Red Storm that included 16 home runs and 113 rbis, he started his collegiate playing career at Kirkwood Community College in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. In his first season as an Eagle, Kal participated in the NJCAA Division II World Series, again knocked out of the tournament by a 1-run deficit. With his college career over, Youngquist hopes to get signed to a professional contract in some capacity to keep his playing career alive.
While waiting for a call to keep his playing career going, Youngquist, a .371 hitter in the second highest collegiate baseball division across the country, is giving hitting lessons to area youth this summer.
