The contract allows them to avoid an arbitration hearing that was supposed to happen yesterday if no settlement was reached. The Cubs originally offered nine-million dollars, while Contreras asked for 10.25 million. The 30-year-old is in the middle of a career year, hitting .277 with 10 home runs and 23 RBI in 47 games.
