Delbert “Del” Dean Bush, 91 of Abingdon, Illinois, passed away peacefully at 10:31 a.m. Saturday, July 9, 2022, at home.

  He was born November 5, 1930 in Clarks, Nebraska, the son of Glen and Martha (Hillegos) Bush.  He married Sandra Smith Heimer on February 24, 1978 in Iowa.

  Del is survived by his wife of 44 years, Sandra; three sons, Mark (Liz) Bush of St. Peters, Missouri, Brian (Laurie) Bush of Mesquite, Texas and Tim (Pam) Heimer of Peoria Heights, Illinois; two daughters, Cindy (Paul) Reeves of Cottontail, Florida and Terri (Mike) Howard of Galesburg, Illinois; nine grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren.

  He was preceded in death by his parents and four brothers, Glen, John, Merle and Marvin.

  He graduated from Monmouth High School in 1949.  He served in the U.S. Marine Corps for three years during the Korean War and was Honorably Discharged on January 22, 1954. He then attended and graduated from Monmouth College in 1957 and later earned his Masters Degree from Bradley University in Peoria.  He was a Teacher and Football and Basketball Coach for 20 years and later worked as an Insurance Salesman for 22 years, retiring in 2005.  He was of the Christian Church faith.  He was a member of the Harry E. Wiles American Legion Post #381 in Abingdon.  He enjoyed golf and baseball, and spending time with his family and friends.

  Cremation will be accorded.  Graveside service with Military Rites will be held at a later date at Babbitt Cemetery near St. Augustine, Illinois.  Hinchliff-Pearson-West Funeral Directors and Cremation Services Abingdon Chapel is in charge of arrangements.

  Memorials may be made to the Abingdon American Legion in care of Sandra Bush, 608 W. Monmouth St., Abingdon, IL 61410.  Online condolences may be made at
