IHSA Continuing Their Search for More Officials

Share

As the Illinois High School Association gets set for a new season, attention continues to focus on recruiting more officials. Already this fall, a good number of high school football games that have traditionally been scheduled for Friday nights, have been either moved to Saturday or even Thursday nights because of a lack of football officials across the state. Craig Anderson serves as executive director of the IHSA, says they’re trying everything in their power to get more people involved in officiating high school sports.

Because of the severe need across the state, the pay per game for high school officials has increased throughout the last several years. Officiating is a great way to earn extra money and also still be involved in athletics. For more information on becoming a junior high or high school sports official or referee, go to the IHSA website at ihsa.org and click on the “Officials” tab. The new IHSA season begins next Monday with the first official practices for fall sports, but it’s never too late to get your licensing started.
