Martin Sanchez, Sr., 76, of Galesburg, died Saturday, August 20, 2022 at OSF St. Francis Medical Center, Peoria, Illinois.
Martin was born November 18, 1945 in Acuña, Mexico the son of Marcos and Vincenta (Varela) Sanchez. Martin married Barbara Jean Gustavus on September 29, 1966 in Del Rio, Texas. Martin is survived by his beloved wife of 55 years, Barb; two daughters, Maria Sanchez of Fayetteville, AR and Norma (David Schisler) Sanchez of Galesburg, Illinois; three sons, Martin (Dorothea) Sanchez, Jr. of Galesburg, Illinois, Marcos (Jessica) Sanchez of Galesburg, Illinois, and Cresencio (Nicole) Sanchez of Galesburg, Illinois; thirteen grandchildren; and twenty three great grandchildren. Martin is also survived by two sisters, Norma (Wenselado) Lopez of San Angelo, Texas and Alicia (Alfredo) Cerda of Del Rio, Texas; and his beloved grand dog, Izzy. Martin was preceded in death by his parents and five brothers.
Martin worked for Iowa Malleable for 26 years. He then worked for Pine Trailer for 1 year and then Briggs Mfg for 9 years, eventually retiring from Heat and Control after 13 years. Martin enjoyed golfing, cheering on the Chicago Cubs, and having a cold beer with his best friend, Mike.
Private family services will be held. The family invites those who wish to express their condolences to Martin and Barb’s house at 1137 Harrison St., Galesburg, Illinois from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, August 24, 2022. Memorials may be made in Martin’s memory to the charity of the donor’s choosing. Arrangements have been entrusted to Watson Thomas Funeral Home and Crematory, Galesburg.
